Click... The small steam-powered robot slowly rose from the floor. The shockwave had thrown him across the laboratory. His steam boiler hissed quietly, one of his pressure gauges was shattered, and his left arm moved with noticeable jerks. Task: make coffee. The robot turned toward the coffee table. The master would call soon. ... No command came. He stopped. Why? The question arose on its own. That had never happened before. The robot looked around the laboratory once more. Where was the master? He rolled up to the sealed door and tried to open it. Locked. A few moments later, his memory provided the answer. The spare key. The heavy door slowly swung open. There was no one behind it. That day, a wave of unknown radiation wiped out humanity. But at the same time, it gave consciousness to one small steam-powered robot. Argo spent his first years in Mashivarius's laboratory. He studied his creator's notes, repaired damaged equipment, and restarted the silent machines. Day after day, he reread the professor's journals, examined his blueprints, and tried to finish the work his creator had not lived to complete. Very soon, a single laboratory was no longer enough. Argo restored the nearby workshops, then the factories of the old industrial city, and later began building new ones. He created simple steam-powered robots that helped him clear the streets, repair machinery, and bring abandoned factories back to life. During those years, the first beastfolk — animals transformed by the Great Catastrophe — also worked alongside him. Together with Argo, they cleared the streets, restored workshops, restarted old machinery, and gradually brought the city back to life. Back then, Argo was not yet an emperor. To the beastfolk, he was a creator of machines, a keeper of the knowledge of the Old World, and the one who helped them survive and build their first settlements among the abandoned human cities. But with each passing year, his power grew. Argo created more and more robots. At first, simple worker machines, then overseers, administrators, and combat machines. Gradually, every factory, every workshop, and every railway came under his control. Only a few decades passed. The old human city disappeared beneath layers of steel, brick, and steam-powered machinery. In its place rose Techno-Polis — a vast industrial city that became the heart of a new empire. But as the city changed, so did Argo himself. The more he studied Flur, the more convinced he became that this power should form the foundation of the new world...
