# Demondred — Senior Knight of Decay

{% hint style="info" %}
**Demondred** is one of the senior Knights of Decay and one of the most hated enemies of the Children of Light. Unlike many servants who came to Decay only after loss, war, or disillusionment, Demondred grew up within the Order from childhood. Decay was not a choice he made later in life. It became his home, his language, his weapon, and the only answer to the pain the Light had left in his life.
{% endhint %}

Demondred is a goat. Tall and sinewy, with a heavy-set head, long horns, and a gaze that since childhood has held not merely anger, but a searing hatred. In his homeland, his mother was considered a witch. Some said she healed the sick with herbs and old incantations. Others whispered that she could hear the voices of the dead. To ordinary villagers, she was strange but needed. To the Children of Light, she was dangerous.

When the Questioners came to their settlement, everything was decided quickly. They did not come seeking the truth. They came to confirm a verdict that had already been passed. Demondred's mother was accused of serving the darkness, practicing witchcraft, corrupting the living, and consorting with the forces of decay. She was taken to the square, tied to a stake, and burned beneath the white banners of the Light.

Demondred was still a child. He watched the flames and heard the prayers of the Questioners and his mother's screams. From that day onward, the Light ceased forever to be a symbol of salvation to him. The Light became the flames of the pyre, white masks, cold voices, and the smell of burning fur.

He fled into the mountains without knowing the way. For several days, he made his way through rocks, snow, landslides, and dead trails until his strength was nearly gone. There, the Servants of Decay found him. They did not try to comfort him with beautiful words. They did not tell him that the pain would pass. They did not promise that he would forget. One of the servants simply covered him with an old ash-gray cloak and said:

> *“Everything must become Decay! This is the great mercy.”*

And so Demondred found himself at one of the mountain outposts of the Servants of Decay. There, he grew up among cold crypts, black bells, funeral chants, necromancers, priests, and warriors of the Order. He was taught to read the Psalms of the Last Earth, wield weapons, not fear the dead, listen to the silence beneath the ground, and understand that decay is not always the end. Sometimes, it becomes the answer.

From an early age, he displayed unusual abilities. He could sense dead flesh, hear the movement of the undead before others could, stand beside the Slab of Return longer than adult servants without losing consciousness under the pressure of Decay. The necromancers said there was too much pain in him for him to become an ordinary priest, and too much will for Decay to simply break him.

But as his strength grew, so did his hatred. Demondred did not merely dislike the Children of Light. He hated them so deeply that it made his bones tremble. Especially the Questioners. To him, they were not servants of faith, but executioners in white garments who concealed their cruelty behind words of purification. Every time he heard prayers to the Light, he remembered the pyre. Every time he saw a white cloak, his hand instinctively reached for his weapon.

When Demondred came of age, he was permitted to undergo the grueling initiation ritual of the Knights of Decay. It was not merely a ceremony of oaths and weapons. His body was prepared by necromancers and grave-smiths. They placed upon him massive black armor forged from old iron, bone plates, ritual chains, and shards of dead Flur. But this armor was not worn like ordinary protection.

It was implanted into his flesh.

Iron entered flesh.

Chains fused with muscle. Plates grew into bone. Seams and rivets became part of his body. From that day onward, Demondred could no longer remove his armor. He does not wear armor — he lives inside it. Or, as the Servants of Decay say, the armor lives with him.

The ritual made him a Knight of Decay, but took away his last chance of ever returning to an ordinary life. Demondred became a weapon of the Order. His body became a fortress, his pain became strength, and his hatred became a warrior's oath.

Now he is one of the senior Knights of Decay, a commander of the ranks of the dead and a scourge of the Children of Light. On the battlefield, he leads living servants, undead, Bone Guards, and the Fallen raised through the Rite of Return. To the Children of Light, his appearance is more than a military threat. It is an old sin returned from the mountains in black armor.

But for all his strength, Demondred does not rule the Order. He is neither a prophet nor its supreme ruler. Above him stand the Bishops of Decay, the Archbishops of the Last Threshold, the Commanders of the Order, and Jaihim Karedim himself.
