# The Questioners

{% hint style="info" %}
**The Questioners** are a separate caste feared even within the Order itself. Formally, they answer to the Patriarch and the highest spiritual authorities, but in practice they have almost unlimited freedom when dealing with heresy, Decay, necromancy, or threats to the Light.
{% endhint %}

They are unlike ordinary warriors. Their weapons are not only swords and pistols, but also questions, pauses, records, testimony, fear, isolation, and the ability to make the guilty or the innocent begin to doubt their own memories.

Among them is a distinct caste known as the Executioner Fathers. They possess exceptional skill in torture. It is said that a true Executioner Father can keep a victim from dying for weeks while subjecting them to terrible pain.

The Questioners rarely enter a village with any fanfare. Usually, a single servant in a gray mask appears first. They speak with the head of the local parish, examine records, question children, elders, healers, and guards. Then the others arrive.

If the Questioners have begun their work, it means someone has already been all but declared guilty.

Their presence makes the Light feel cold. The temple grows quieter. Warriors speak less. Residents try to avoid meeting their gaze. Even paladins do not like standing beside them for too long.
