# Supreme Authority of the Order

At the head of the Children of Light stands the Patriarch of the First Ray. Below him are the Archbishops of the Dawn Throne, followed by the Bishops of Light, Commanders of the Order, Paladins of Light, Questioners, Lightbringers, Healers, Keepers of the Flame, ordinary Children of Light, and Novices.

But this hierarchy is not always straightforward.

Paladins command immense military prestige. Commanders control actual armies. Bishops govern parishes and lands. Questioners can approach almost anyone and demand answers. And the Patriarch must hold all of this together, preventing the Order from splitting between mercy and fanaticism.

This is the central internal conflict of the Children of Light: they sincerely seek to protect the living world, yet within their own Light, the fear of shadow has long taken root.
