# Parishes of the Children of Light

Parishes of the Children of Light are scattered across many parts of the world. They can take many forms: a small white chapel by the roadside, a fortified temple on the border of corrupted lands, a hospital in a former fort, a fortified monastery in the mountains, a school for orphans in a poor settlement, or a caravan station with a lamp of Light above its gates.

**Every parish serves several purposes:**

* preaching the teachings of the Light;
* providing shelter to travelers, orphans, and the wounded;
* treating the sick;
* educating children and novices;
* gathering information about Decay, mutants, the undead, the Steam Empire, and strange manifestations of Flur;
* training new servants;
* serving as a base for paladins, Commanders, and Questioners.

For an ordinary beastfolk, a parish can be a place of genuine salvation. There, they will be fed, their wounds will be treated, they will be given a place to sleep, and they will be protected from bandits or mutants. But that same parish can become a place of fear if the Questioners arrive and begin searching for hidden darkness.

Among the Children of Light, the Light almost always offers protection. But it rarely comes without conditions.
